HDMI 4 input not decoding 5.1

HDMI 4 input not decoding 5.1 - 01/23/19 12:14 AM

5.1 content isn’t decoding properly with devices that are connected to the HDMI 4 input. The content outputs correctly using the same devices with the other 3 HDMI inputs.

I connected a Roku 3 to the HDMI 4 input. The source indicators show 5.1, but the output indicators show only 2.1, and that’s what I’m getting. Status shows Dolby Digital Plus 3/2.1.

So I moved an Apple TV to HDMI 4. The 975 source and output indicators show 2.1 only. Status shows Multi PCM 3/2.1.

Cable box in HDMI 4: The 975 source indicators show 5.1 but the output indicators show (and I’m only getting) 2.1. Status shows Dolby Digital 3/2.1.

Thanks for any ideas to help diagnose.

The status showing 3/2.1, is a 5.1 signal. The first "3" is for your front sound stage channels, left, right, and center. The "2" is for the surround channels, with .1 being the LFE channel.

Right. In all cases the status says that I'm receiving 5.1 from the source. But in some cases the source indicators don't match that, and in all cases the output indicators don't match that and only 2.1 is coming out of the speakers.

Sounds like you've pressed the stereo button, on the remote, when you were monitoring this input. Next time you are monitoring this input, make sure to press the Surr Mode button.

Thank you! That was it. I haven’t used stereo mode so I didn’t know what was happening, but that makes sense. Must have been an inadvertent tap on my Harmony remote.
