Oppo BDP-83 Remote issue

Is anyone having remote issues with their BDP-83? Mine seems to not work at times. New batteries first thing. Also my Harmony One acts the same way. Sent an email to Oppo said they have heard reports of this but they do not have anything on it yet and they recommended updating to the latest (June) firmware. Did that, no change. It usually works but at times is unresponsive. Other than that-it's great.

Have you tried pulling the plug and letting it sit a while before plugging it in again? I mainly use a URC MX850 and have had no problems with the BDP-83, except when I forget the built-in delays and stop pointing the remote at the equipment before the macro completes. I guess I could solve that one with RF but I'm not likely to do that.

How high is the player in the equipment rack? The front panel display is set back a bit from the face of the player due to the front panel design, and I think the IR sensor is somewhat similar. If you have the player really high and are aiming up at it sharply it's possible you're in a blind spot. I haven't had that problem, but I also have used my original remote very little (mostly using the IR emitter that's fed from my MX-900's RF receiver, which makes aim a complete non-issue).

I have had issues with the BDP-83 as well. The older 970hd was considerably better. I think the ir receiver is weaker. I called OPPO and expressed my feelings. My older toshiba had the best ir receiver I ever had. Im using the Madrigal remote and it does not help anything.

It is definitely the OPPO player. Either the Harmony or the OPPO remote has the same response which is zero 9 out of 10 times tried. The player is about 15 inches off the floor so angle isn't a factor. I use a Niles IR repeater because everything sits inside a Salamander cabinet with steel mesh doors. With doors open, and repeater out of the system, neither remote works unless held within 6 inches and the remote actually has to point upwards towards the ceiling. Used camera on phone to verify emmiters working. OPPO is going to replace the unit so their service seems to be great about it. Will follow up when new unit arrives.

Got the new OPPO and the remote issues are gone. Everything working great! Fantastic customer service.
