Different 970/990 remotes

Has anybody noticed a difference in the Outlaw remotes? I recently guided my step dad through the purchasing and set-up of a 970. And I recently purchased and set up a 990 of my own. I was calibrating his system the other night and toying with different Dolby sound fields. The Dolby and DTS and menu button are in different locations. I like his better. Just curious to know if anyone has seen this as well? And why did they get change or have they always been different?

The 990's remote layout has always differed from teh 1070/970 remote layout. It is because the two platforms have different features - the 990 has more inputs, for example, thus necessitating more buttons assigned to selecting those inputs.

I went into the manuals and noticed they were different. Initially I was thinking the remote changed recently.
