Digital Signal fading in and out on 1050

Digital Signal fading in and out on 1050 - 03/28/05 03:08 PM

I recently bought the Incredibles DVD. When played on my Sony DVD 665 and the sound is piped through either COAX or optical to my 1050, the digital sound detection on the 1050 drops out every 10 to 20 seconds. In other words, the sound goes away for 2-4 seconds every 10 to 20 seconds. It seems as if the 1050 is searching for the digital signal. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

I have two different DVD's

I truely appreciate your help

It sounds like the disc's Dolby EX flag is the culprit - a known problem with the 1050 and some other receivers of that time that used proprietary EX decoding (although the 1050 is the only receiver that seems to still be in widespread use). Is your surround back speaker set to "on" in the 1050's menu? Doing so will satisfy the flag and prevent the drop-outs.

WOW, Thanks for the fast response.

The back rear speaker is set to "off". I'll change it to "on" and try it again. BTW, has Outlaw corrected this problem with the 1070?

Thanks again Gonk. Have a great day.

The 950 does not suffer from this problem, so I feel certain that the 1070 will also handle EX flags painlessly.
