DVI-> analogue in receiver?

DVI-> analogue in receiver? - 08/15/04 12:44 AM

I've little experience with the new video connectors, does anyone know if receivers with DVI inputs can usually convert that to analogue and output it on svideo? I'm going to be upgrading in pieces, and doing the TV last, but don't want to have to keep rewiring
thanks

I'm afraid the answer to this one is probably no. First, DVI switching is only just beginning to appear - the Model 1070 that Outlaw will be releasing around the end of December will be the first to offer it that I'm aware of. Second, because of the signal format involved (digital video at 480p, 720p, or 1080i), I doubt that we will see any units with DVI switching support downconversion to analog video (especially the 480i of s-video). Not only would the hardware involved be quite costly, it would offer no video quality benefit if implemented.

I'm guessing that your current TV supports s-video but not component, which is similar to the TV that I replaced just a few months ago. The TV upgrade will involve some cabling changes no matter what you do, I'm afraid.
