2 CH and SACD - DVD-A ? - 05/06/04 06:32 AM

I have set up a two CH system in my office at work. I am hooking up a Pioneer DV45 for SACD - DVD-A - CD. On the DV45 only the front L/R outputs are connected to the receiver right now. I have set the front speakers to large, all other speakers and the sub are set to off. The 2 CH Marantz receiver I am using has no 5.1 input, It does have pre-outs for the mains which I have connected to two M200's driving a pair of Polk Lsi-9's.
Would this work, Can I re-enable the sub Ch on the DV45 run the SUB output from the DV45 directly to the input on a powered sub ?
I am considering moving the DV45 to the home system and upgrading to a Denon 2200 in the office as the DV45 does not do Bass management correctly from what I have read, no redirection of the .1 CH to mains when Sub is set to off ( home system BM is not an issue )Would an ICBM help in this setup ?

If the DV45 is the only source that you're using in the office, connecting the sub directly from the DV45 should work, although it will be unaffected by volume control changes that take place at the Marantz.

The ICBM works well for creating a subwoofer signal where none already exists, but I don't believe that it's set up to redirect an LFE channel into the left/right channels, which is what you would want to do if your DV45 is omitting that step.

Be careful about the DVD player redirecting the sub channel to the mains. My Denon 2900 did not do this. Denon's response was that the redirect thing was the job of the pre/pro. You'd want to make sure that the 2200 does what you want it to do.

I'd rather not use a sub but I am not getting much bass / SACD with the DV45.
SONY DVP725 was SACD only and seems like it has better BM but I wanted both DVD-A and SACD capability. Have not gotten any DVD-A disks just yet to try that format. Room is only 10 x 13 don't need a ton of bass ( sub )
But would like a bit fuller bottom end than I'm hearing now.
