Woofer placement

For lack of a better place to post:
I was going to place my (second) LFM in a media center- but it will be "boxed" in.
It will sit in a "cabinet" surounded by drywall and open at the front covered by a cloth grill.
Being Down-firing- am I screwing up by effectively putting it into another "box"?
I can't test my placement- just trying to design b4 its too late(new house).

It helps to hire an architect if you have not already.

If it can be helped, symmetrically placed speakers in an asymmetrically shaped room will be ideal. If not (shape), the surface treatment (acoustically) will help. Depends on how good you want your HT to be, this may be just a tip of an iceberg.

Enclosing a down-firing sub like that may present some problems. I'd toss the scenario past Outlaw tech support, but my initial response is similar to curegeorg's -- you may be hindering the LFM-1 by doing this.

Spiker -- nice marketing work. You know, acoustics also require some extra consideration within the HVAC system as well...

Of course. Besides sight and sound, temperature, humidity and oxygen level can all contribute to the outcome of the movie experience. It all depends on how far the owner wants to take it to.

This sub placement is in an open family room- so, architect aside, the placement can really be anywhere.
I'm putting most of my efforts($) into my dedicated HT.
The Media wall that will(was) enclosing the sub may have to be re-thought. I do have a CEDIA guy doing the install( Elan in-ceiling) 5.1 in this room-maybe I'll just let him figure it out. Can always make a cabinet from the enclosure.
