SPL Meter Chart - 11/25/02 03:22 PM

At one time someone posted a chart, which gave compensation information for low frequency sound level measurement with a Radio Shack SLP Meter. Help!

Does this help any?

(This really belongs in the Saloon Links . Gotta update saloon links... Gotta get past Dec. 12 deadline at work...)

Don't these Radio Shack meters only go from 60-120hz or did I buy the wrong one?

Are you thinking of 60-120 dB perhaps?

The manual for the digital version says the C-weighting setting "causes the meter to respond mainly to frequencies in the 32 to 10,000 Hz range."

I bought the digital one instead of the analog. It has a dial that adjusts the frequency it looks for. The range is 60-120 hz, if I remember correctly, and it goes by incriments of 10 hz. I don't know the decibel range that this works in. I'm not sure if the 60 hz range will check for everything below 65 hz or just 55-65 hz. I'll check on that later.

I did think of some way that might work. If I know the frequency being output, and the meter reads everything below 65 hz, I could just add the corrections like normal. If that doesn't work, I'll probably just throw a fit.

JT: If you have this one:

The dial is in fact for DB ranges and it does a +/- 10 around that range in it's measuring.

Maybe I should check my reading skills. That looks just like what I have, but it only cost $50, not $90. So this meter will take in all frequencies (pretty much all audible) and the dial has to be set so that it is close to what decibel level is being output to accurately measure it. And to use the low range correction chart properly it's necessary to know the frequency being played?

That's probably $90CA, not $90US. As for the rest, you've pretty much got it, I think.

Thanks Gonk! The sad part of this is that I own an SV subwoofer.

Sorry about the Canadian link! Unfortunately (since I am visiting Florida in January) $90 CDN = $50 US (approximately)...but otherwise everything else is true...
