I think DSD and 24bit both out perform SACD,however I can't get enough CDs in any of these formats to be sure. What do you other Outlaws think?

From what I've heard I'ld have to disagree. To me, the DSD is realy lackluster compaired to MLP. SACD hasn't impressed me at all. However the 24 bit remasters that I have are beautifuly done. There is far more depth then the DSD recordings that I have.

ANd for the record...I though DSD (direct streem digital) was SACD.

I have a new CD by Jorma Kaukonen recorded in DSD.The sound quality got me reading the Jewel case.......it is also available in Sacd. This got me listening to Sacd.To produce SACD the material must first be recorded in DSD. 24 bit is a very big improvement, however we may never see the the sound quailty of the early Hifi again.

Sony and Philips are the creators of the SACD format, which uses DSD (Direct Stream Digital)encoding. You are not hearing SACD (or DSD) if you do not have a SACD player. Some SACD's are Hybrid editions, meaning they have a standard CD layer and will play on any CD or DVD player.
I like SACD- it do impress me. But you will find there are great recordings and not-so-great recordings available. Just like CD's.

You may be right, however the remastered Stones SACDs sound very good through my Rotel and in my car. They say they are remastered into DSD.Jorma Kaukonen's new "Blue Country Heart" sounds fantastic,my copy is not SACD,however it says it was recorded in DSD.I feel I am unable to judge SACD,as the Sony 900 sucks! All the hybrids sound better through my Rotel 965BX.

Steve's referring to the fact that the DSD track is only accessible from an SACD player. The audio CD layer used by your Rotel and your car player is not DSD (it may have been recorded in DSD, of course, but the track you are hearing in those cases has been converted to PCM at some point in the mastering process).

Thanks, gonk. The new ABKCO Records remansterd Stones releases are Hybrid discs. They just don't make that very clear for some reason. Typically, Hybrid releases are marked as such on the outside of the case. Could be a marketing thing- don't want to confuse the buyers maybe, but doing just that?

None of those CDs sound very good when played through a sony DVD player useing the Direct channell.......I guess my factory CD player in my car is better than the Sony 900.
