recently friend decided to go higher end on HT system
.
I recomended a few things, speakers being the first. He bought some B&W speakers ( 5) and liked them so much he can now see what good equipment can do for your enjoyment.
He started looking at higher end Yamaha recievers ( likes their menu section )
Refered him to Outlaw 975 and the 5000 amp. Says he will buy next week and is excitted.

For the past week he has read every review, every forum thread on the Outlaw 975. He would call and ask questions.
So to be more informed and to sound intelectualy gifted I read every thread and review myself so as to seem all knowing.
SO after all this reading I was thinking, can I trade in my 990 for a 975.?
I remember Outlaw was offering $300 for a marantz product some time back.

My 990 is 14 years old, probably the single best purchase i had ever made,
Seems everything has HDMI Now, I have to create ways to get my 990 in the mix, having to run way more cable than if I upgraded to the 975.
Guess another question would be, would I be lossing anything on the audio side of things by switching ?

As long as he is upgrading he might consider a little more future proofing and go with the 976 which is 4K and HDR capable. The combo price is about $380 difference but much more capable as far as the video side of HT.

he is budget conscience, if he went up in budget then he would go for the MC 700 from Emotiva as it lies in between the 975 and 976 in price

4K is real, but the difference in resolution at normal viewing distances can be hard to discern. The larger color gamut with HDR is much more accurate and detailed and it is the future of video IMHO. One of the best things about the 976 is it's currency with connectivity as far as HDMI 2.0b and HDCP 2.2. If he already has a 4K/HDR TV he is wasting resolution with the 975.

my friend is very budget minded. He wanted a larger screen TV so he bought a Vizo from Target. Think it cost under $400.
He will order the 975/5000 combo on friday..
He will be happy comming from where he was..To watch him go from the cheapest Pioneer and Yamaha to this is nice...

FWIW I've owned a couple Visio TVs in the past and have always been satisfied with their performance. The one complaint I have is they don't tend to last as long as some of the other brands.

Too bad your friend missed the Christmas sale. Could have saved some $.
