Marantz AV7005 - XLR Interconnect Pin-Out Config? - 11/19/11 05:39 PM

Now using an Outlaw Model 990 with Outlaw XLR interconnects to my amp. Just ordered the Marantz AV7005 from Outlaw.

I've noticed that the Marantz User Guide says, "The PIN arrangement in this device uses the European method. In the USA method, w is COLD, and e is HOT. When connecting a device that utilizes the USA type of PIN arrangement, replace [reverse?] the w and e plugs on one side of the balanced cable."

The excellent Outlaw User Guide doesn't note this.

Sorry if I missed it somewhere else on this forum, but when going to the Marantz AV7005, will I have to reverse two wires on one end of each XLR cable?

Or am I worrying too much about this, i.e., the U.S. model will come correctly configured for U.S. use?

No worry. You should not have to rewire the XLR interconnects. My AV7005 is connected to a Gemstone amp using the XLR interconnects and standard balanced cables. Despite what the manual indicates, the PIN arraingment is 'standard' US configuration. To ensure this, you can check the labels on your amp pins. There is a discussion on this in the Marantz AV7005 thread over at the AVS forum.

skiman - thanks for your prompt response!

Guess I overreacted to a 7005 review I read somewhere. Said that his XLR cables wouldn't work. They must have gotten a U.S. model in Europe, or vice versa.

Cheers!
