Why no printable version of the "Guide"?

Why no printable version of the "Guide"? - 08/06/11 02:34 PM

Why can't I print a hard copy of the "outlaw guide to the SR5005"? I can't drag my desktop into the theater, so a digital version of the guide that cannot be printed off is about as useful as not having the guide at all. Thanks for nothing.

Outlaw applied copy protection to the file to prevent printing. They include a printed copy with each SR5005 that they sell - I saw one earlier this summer, it's nice - but they intended the manual as an incentive for owners who bought from Outlaw. If you bought your SR5005 from Outlaw and didn't receive a copy, you should let Outlaw know so they can send you your hard copy.

I'm sure if Marantz were willing to pay Outlaw to cover the cost of re-writing much of the original manual so it was more useful, they would have unlocked the file so all Marantz owners could print it.

You can find free PDF unlockers online. I have to use it regularly with various manuals so I can add comments or extract the page I want to save.

I was able to download my Onkyo PR-sc886 manual and print it out. I keep it on flashdrive so I can access it anywhere I want. The same goes for the 990 manual.

All of Outlaw's manuals for Outlaw gear are printable. The 886 and AV8003 guides were also printable, but the SR5005 and the original version of the AV7005 guides were both set up with printing disabled. I believe this was done in large part because both units were brand new to market when the guides were released and Outlaw wanted to have some additional incentive for buying directly from Outlaw rather than buying from someone else and printing a copy of Outlaw's guide. (The 886 and AV8003, on the other hand, had both been on the market for at least nine months when their guides were posted, so the market of people shopping for them was a little different. Plus both were a lot more expensive than the SR5005, which changed the equation a little as well.) They still made both available for free download, of course, and I think the current version of the AV7005 guide was released without printing restrictions. At this point, I think the only PDF guide or manual available on Outlaw's site that can't be printed (or at least not without some creativity) is the SR5005.

I've got the SMS-1, 886, SR5005, and AV7005 guides saved alongside a lot of other manuals that I keep handy as references. They've been useful. I may even have the AV8003 guide saved, along with the 990, 970/1070, 950, 1050, RR2150, LFM-1, 7500, and an absurd number of other PDF's for equipment I've owned or ended up reading up on for some reason.

I find that the manuals are much easier to use as .pdfs since they are fully searchable and easier to read on a screen. I can print them if I need them but would rather save the trees so they can be made into cabinets.

OK, but the SR5005 has been out for over a year now, I understand the incentive for buying from Outlaw and approve of it, but I saved $80 buying my SR5005 somewhere else BEFORE I even knew of Outlaw. So what am I supposed to do for a printed version or for that matter the online only PDF version. I can't even open it? and I surely dont think it would have been worth the extra $80.

You can open the online copy and view it on your PC without restrictions.

Download it to a smart phone and take it to its leader. Even though you saved $80 buying it elsewhere, Outlaw will still allow you to read the guide. Didn't you get a Marantz manual with the 5005?
