SR-5007 worth upgrading from the Outlaw 1070? - 08/25/13 06:14 AM

Has anyone moved from the Outlaw 1070 to the Marantz SR-5007? I'm wondering if it's a worthy upgrade. Feature-wise it's exactly what I'm looking for, just wondering if the sound quality is at least on par with the 1070.

I'm not considering the Outlaw 975 because it's missing a few features that I'd like primarily 6+ HDMI inputs and networking/AirPlay with second zone support.

Thanks,

I can't speak for the 1070, having never owned one. But I owned a Marantz SR 5002 for almost five years. It never gave me a bit of trouble, and sounded great with music and movies. The HDMI switching was flawless as well. The current price of the 5007 is a total steal. I would say go for it !

Jim, good to hear that the Marantz has decent sound and has been trouble-free for you. Unfortunately, I'm not in the U.S., so I can't purchase a SR5007 through Outlaw for the $599 price. They are still pretty pricey here in Canada, even though the newer SR5008 is available. I think I'll wait a couple of weeks to see if anything interesting shows up a CEDIA. There are rumours that Anthem will announce updates to their MRX line. If the MRX 300 replacement has 6+ HDMI inputs I'll probably give that one a shot.
