Like all their previous subs were either HSU subs tweaked to their own specs or designed by Dr Hsu, is their new sub related to another company? Is it like a redesigned Velodyne or anything like that?

Or is this Outlaw's first completely ground up new design? Maybe that is why the cost is kind of up there. I know it has a powerful amp but when I saw the price $849, I was a little surprised.

Interesting…so I\'m not the only Outlaw who was wondering about the price point. Didn't have any context to back up my question, though.

But the price point is comparable to its competitors for the type of sub. Small sealed designs that can perform comparably to large ported ones inherently cost more to build. As I noted in the other thread, that's the price you pay to get the tiny sub...

There's been some speculation that it may be based on a Velodyne/Chrysalis Photon 10 but that's just rumor at this point. Not much discussion/review of the ECS-10 yet.

So what would be some examples of competitors to this sub?

I could get a Rythmik F12 12" Servo sealed sub with their top amp and driver for $799 or all the way down to $669 with the different driver and amp. It is only slightly bigger but also is a 12" driver.

Velodyne MiniVee 10 can be bought for $799 right now. What are some other ones?

I could even get a B&W ASW610 msrp $650. I have an ASW600 in my main system now and it is a wonderful sounding sub for music and movies.

Think you've hit it on the head, mtrostel. Both the physical appearance and the specs of the Photon 10 are identical to the ECS-10. Driver, magnet weight, back panel controls and placement are spot on as well. Interestingly, the Photon 10 sells for $999, so if they really are identical in all respects the ECS-10 is a deal -- even at full price.

That said, do we have any inkling how the ECS-10 would compare to the LCM units?

Cheers.
