What's Outlaw's policy on answering questions here? - 07/01/09 04:42 PM

I asked a question about the 997's firmware several days ago here http://ubb.outlawaudio.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/ubb/get_topic/f/54/t/000091.html .

There were a few guesses but no response from Outlaw.

Outlaw has always treated the saloon as a place for their customers and potential customers to get together and interact. With that in mind, they maintain a very minimal presence. That's why Scott has only 550 or so posts in 8+ years and I have 12,000+ in slightly less time. They will step in and comment on questions at times, but more often than not I recommend contacting them directly if you want specific technical questions answered. (The "Contact us" link at the bottom of each forum page will take you to a page with both their online support page and their phone number.)

In the case of your question, there may be NDA's in place still that limit what they can say about the firmware on the R-972 and Model 997. Or there may not be and they can easily and freely answer your question. Personally, I think it's safe to say that it will be at least somewhat different firmware. The two are using different faceplates, which may cause there to be some subtle differences. The tight time frame between releases would suggest that the differences will not be nearly as extensive as those found between the R-965 and Model 990 (which have completely different on-screen menu systems and bass management implementations).
