2 Room2 requests

2 Room2 requests - 09/24/08 09:57 PM

There are two things I don't like about Room2 on the 990 that I'd like to see addressed with the 997:

1. Ability to change the radio station when listening to the Tuner in Room2.

2. Eliminate the need for analog audio connections in order for a source to be available to Room2.

Any chance of those things happening?

Thanks,

I don't know about the first, but the second is a common limitation of second zones even at price points well above the 997's. It's always possible they'll provide D/A, but I think the likelihood of it is low...

Too bad there's no available manual on the 872 or 972 to check, but SN often packs a lot of features into their units...you can hope. However, for both of these features the only comparably priced unit out there is the Denon 3808ci. I think Yamaha's heigher end receivers have 2nd zone remotes that allow radio tuning.

Not sure how SN intends to implement, but some receivers (Pioneer comes to mind) allow digital in zone 3, however it's a passthrough of the optical input, so zone 3 requiures another DAC anyway.

We all should probably face the likelihood that the 997 design is already set in stone except for some firmware changes. Get over the hardware stuff and let them release the 997 sooner than later.

I took the "coaxial digital" part of the following from the 997 page (in the "Additional Features" section) to mean that the second zone output would would indeed have digital out. Do you think I am missing something?

Room 2 A/V Output with fixed/variable audio level, S-Video and coaxial digital
Outlaw - if I am missing something perhap you should update your page because a few other boneheads like myself will probably come to the same conclusion. And if I am correct, Fantastic!!! That would be a huge feature, even if it has some limitation like the Z2 input must match the main zone, or it must be digital, or something. Make sure it gets well tested.
