Time for our annual viewing of V for Vendetta! Looking forward to taking it in on blu-ray tonite. First time watching it with the 975 and I can't wait to finally hear that TrueHD soundtrack. laugh

The majority of Netflix titles (and other streaming providers...) rarely even output 5.1 http://www.trustedreviews.com/netflix_TV_review_hd-surround-sound-and-picture-quality_Page-2

Those articles are pretty outdated now. A lot has changed in the last 18 months. Almost everything we watch is in 5.1 and that includes both movies and TV shows. Granted it's nothing like a blu-ray surround but it IS 5.1 and you can hear it.

It is hard to tell if the streaming is coming in at 5.1 or is being converted to 5.1 by some Dolby codec. A native surround signal is very data intensive and sucks up a lot of bandwidth.

Well, I've been watching the last couple of days after reading this, Xenon. Most of the shows we watch all display across the 975 as "Dolby Digital (3/2).1. I think this means that it's a 5.1 signal, doesn't it?

Is that the input signal or what the 975 is putting out? Even if the input signal is two channel the 975 can turn it into 5.1 using Dolby processing. It could be 5.1 coming in as many station are broadcasting that signal.

I assumed it was the input signal. That's what scrolls across the display when it starts playing. Maybe I need to pull out my 975 manual and see if there's a way to determine for sure what type of input it's receiving.

If the display does say DD 3/2.1 then you are getting the stream in DD. Otherwise the 975 would show DD 2.0 and you would have to up mix w/PLII. Also if all the boxes are lit with all the speakers icons showing.. then you are also receiving 5.1
