compact or ex - 02/16/10 10:41 PM

i am anxiously awaiting my maggenepan 1.7s and have been shopping around for a sub to complement them. I watch lots of movies and listen to a wide variety of music from rock, rap, to classical and everything in between. I am looking for a sub which would work well for both applications and will likely add a second sub a few years down the road. With that, would you recommend the ex or compact. I am sold on the ex from all I have read, could use the extra end table - xenonman (-: My one fear on the ex is that it will not be a tight enough tone to serve my musical needs...am I wrong, am I right? I have no idea. Let me know your opinions on these 2 subs in the application I have described.

Musically the EX blends very well with my Mains in 2.1 mode. I am not a big fan of big bass in music. I like it for the fill in it allows. My Mains are very efficient so the power they need is minor. I love the EX but I also love the other sub too. I think if you have the room the EX will be all the sub you ever need. When you get your 1.7s post some comments. I am really leaning towards them for my system at my cabin. More for the music than for HT though.

I will definitely post on the 1.7s I know there is limited info out there right now, and what is available is being provided in from a demo in a controlled environment. I am looking forward to them for both music and HT, although I dont know what direction to go for my other speakers. I have been told to stick with planar all the way, but I physically do not have the space, so pairing up a center and surround speakers is going to be a challenge in itself.

I am kind of in the same boat but I have an old set of Advent Loudspeakers which match up pretty well as far as efficiency and I'll try those before I jump in all the way. I have a 7500 amp just waiting to power the maggies.
