question about dolby digtial 5.1??? - 03/06/07 12:07 PM

i just hooked up my ps3 and when watching a blu-ray movie encoded in Dobly Digital through my 5.1 system, should i leave the surround mode on just (Dolby Digital) or should i leave it on Dolby Digital and add like (pro logic II-Cinema)? which would sound better? what would you guys do? also something like center width adjustment, in the manual it says only takes effect in Pro Logic Music Mode, but i heard it also takes effect in Pro Logic II Cinema mode. Is that true? Does the center width adjustment effect Pro Logic II Cinema Mode? thanks for the replys?

If you have a 7.1 setup, I'd recommend giving PLIIx a try. It'll bring the rear surrounds into the mix.

The center width, dimension, and panorama adjustments only work with PLII/IIx-Music mode; they have no effect on Cinema mode. In the case of applying PLIIx to a 5.1 source, of course, they wouldn't matter much anyway because of the discrete 5.1 Dolby Digital mix: PLIIx is only being used to spread the side surrounds across the rear surrounds when used in conjunction with Dolby 5.1. In the case of two-channel movie sources, you can use the Pro Logic IIx-Music mode to benefit from those adjustments.

gonk do you use pro logic- Music when watching TV to benifit from your center width adjustments, say as opposed to pro logic cinema mode? how does the cinema mode differ then the music mode anyway? like the music emphasizes what as compared to the cinema mode which emphasizes what? also, do you ever play with the panarama mode? thanks gonk.

I've mostly used Cinema mode with TV because it anchors dialog to the screen. It's been a while since I tinkered with Music mode and the PLII adjustments.
