Speaker positioning - 10/11/02 09:21 PM

One of my favorate features of my 1050 is the rear channel. I love being completely enveloped by my surround sound. Which brings to a huge dilema!

I will be moving into a house next year and the wiring has been done for a typical 5.1 structure with the speaker connections at the ceiling.

Firstly what are people's thoughts with the speakers being at the cieling vs floor standing?

And more importantly what should I do with the rear channel speaker? By placing the rear speaker behind the couch with the surround left/right rears in the cieling will totally distort the sound?

Any suggestions?

I suppose it depends on the speakers you have. I actually have my rear surrounds on the ceiling. Since they are Boston Acoustics VRS Micro's (diffuse-field surrounds) they create a nice rear sound field which my rear center (being directly behind the couch) compliments nicely. Works pretty well for me!
