Longevity of Outlaw/ATI amps?

Longevity of Outlaw/ATI amps? - 04/06/11 09:50 AM

I have friends that have circa 70-80's amps that are still in good working order. Just curious how long some of you have had your Outlaw amps. If I'm not mistaken they started selling amps about 10yrs ago, and I know ATI has been around for longer...

I am looking at the 7700 which is on sale right now, to match up with my current Denon 3808ci. I think my goal is to keep the amp as long as possible, and then switch out the pre-amp as technology changes through the years.

Just wanted feedback from some of you "long time" seperate folks on what to expect. thanks, Randy

My Model 200 amps (Outlaw, but not ATI-built) have been going strong since late 2004. The Model 7500 has been in place since the summer of 2006, so it will turn five this summer. Prior to that, my Model 750 lasted five or six years and was working fine when UPS killed it in transit to a new owner.

that sucks Gonk about the 750, I'm glad to hear your enjoying your equipment, hope I will be able to convince the wife I need a 7700 or 7125, but daddy likes the 7700. smile

I'm still running a 770, the predecessor of the 7700. I've used it for about 6 years with neary a hiccup.

I've owned my 770 since late 2002 and have had ZERO issues. The 770 in this system is virtually never turned off, runs 24/7 except on rare occasions. A quick conservative estimate has my 770 at around 70,000 hours and going strong.

Thinking back the 770 has outlasted a processor, 2 DVD players, 2 cable boxes, 1 TV and a CD player.

Either amp is a great piece of equipment. The best bang for the buck is definitely the 7125 at $699 if you don't need balanced outputs. However, the 7700 is maybe the last amp you will ever need and at $600 less than two weeks ago it is also a steal. Buy an amp before the sale ends. The wife will agree with that!!

Yeah I know... smile The 7700 has more than just the balanced inputs, the differential design and being balanced from input to output is a different design from the 7125 which is single ended. Whether a person would notice this, not sure. My plan down the road is to upgrade to the new Outlaw pre if/when it comes out. smile

Well, I've been pondering this for days, going back and forth, reading tons of past posts here and on other websites. drum rollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll, da da ching....7700 ordered just now. Now I can stop stressing. smile I will be using my Denon 3808ci for now as a pre, which should be totally fine.

Anxious to see the progress of the new Outlaw Pre/Pro for a future purchase. smile

thanks, Randy

Congratulations Sirquack. I don't think you'll ever regret it. The 7700 is a very fine amp.

You are going to be very impressed with the 7700. Make sure you follow the instructions to unbox it and move it around. Get some help and put it someplace sturdy, close to the ground if possible, to avoid straining your back. Those Axioms are gonna sing. Make sure you give us a full report. I would like to hear how the Axioms perform as I may someday get a set for my 7125.

I just upgraded my VP150 center to a VP180 v3 Center (newest M80 center). My m80's are Version 2 which is very minor. I may put my 80's up on their auction site someday and put the money towards some Version 3's. Basically they have made some minor crossover changes, magnetic grills, and the cones on the drivers are white instead of black.
