Axiom M-80s with the 7500 - 03/12/09 12:08 PM

Anyone running Axiom M-80s with their 7500. Any insights before I buy them would be helpful.

Yes. From my experience they work well together for both movies and music. The combination could be described as neutral - what goes in goes out - nothing added. This works very well for original CD's. I tried using an Ipod - just see the result - not good. It was like all the music got chopped off. I use a Denon 2808 as a preamp and even with its " restorer", it was still not a good experience. Using CD's was very good - some music that I was familiar with sounded better and more detailed. Movie watching is also enjoyable.

The 7500 with the M80's can play very loud, there is more amp than most people need. But the extra wattage works very well for peaks. I used a 7075 before, while it sounded alright, the 7500 was an improvement. Axiom rates the M80's quite high so I thought the 7075 would work but I was not that satisfied. I the used a ATI 1202 to drive them with an improvement. I would have continued to use the 1202 but Outlaw had a sale+free shipping so went with the 7500. I really like the combination but there were some growing pains. When I started to use the 7500 I had to move the speakers back a little and I had to use a riser on the M80's. Once those physical adjustments were made I was satisfied. The Denon has the Audessy room correction - I bypass the L and R. Overall, bass is clean, highs are good, while it is not the most expensive combination, it works for me and I have not felt any need to upgrade either the speakers or the amp.

Shipping by Axiom in Ontario was 4 days (2500 miles). The cabinets are vinyl coated for an OK finish. They do have better finishes for a few dollars more. Some of their pictures in their forums are great. Service was good too, similar to Outlaw - just a phone call away.

Overall I believe it was a good purchase not just because of the sound quality but as mentioned no desire to sell it and buy something else.
