Does the 7700 run hot? - 07/17/06 09:27 PM

I'm looking to buy the 7700/990 combo but I was wondering how hot the 7700 gets when in use? I have plenty of room for the 7700 on my HT rack. Also will XLR cables make a difference for a quiet sound(No Humming)?
Thanks Guys

I have that combo.
Does not run HOT.
Warm, yes, but not hot.
Obviously it is necessary to have good ventilation.

Regarding XLR vs. unbalanced: There are many posts on the forum about this. Various opinions exist. Clearly, though, the main reason for balanced is to exclude extaneous "noise", especially in long runs.
Most have found that in short runs it does not make a difference. Just rout the cables away from AC to avoid induction.

As nfaguys said it runs warm. I keep the glass doors open slightly to help ventilation. Definitely not somthing I worry about.

Allow some top space to breathe.
XLR cabling will definitely contribute to less hum and noise (common mode cancelling).
Try to keep the cables short and away from power lines.
Do not wrap them tightly together as this could jeopardize the screening, especially when you use cheapie cables.
