How does the 7700 Perform under load - 02/28/06 11:08 PM

How well does the 7700 perform under high loads. I have been using a couple of 400W stereo tube amps for a while have used transistor amps in the past. The amps I am using now are getting old and I was thinking of upgrading to the 7700. My only problem is my ESS AMT3 speakers are not real efficient and I need at least 200 Watts of tube power to drive them. Will a 200W per channel 7700 be up to the task? For example my Phase Linear 400 would peg the VU's at near 0 db levels while the tube amps run at about 75%.

Meanegene asked about performance under load for "not real efficient" speakers. I have been using CROWN ES 224's. These are not efficient, as there are 24 old electrostatic elements plus two woofers.
The 7700, just like the 755 is transparent and seems to have plenty headroom. I've not measured SPL's (been meaning to get to ratshack) but sonically it's good and seems like lots of room left when loud loud loud.
