Pictures of a naked 7500... - 02/03/06 09:34 PM

Outlaw Audio used to put pictures of the guts of their components online for all to see. They have gotten away from doing that so I figured I would post some shots of the 7500 exposed. Enjoy!!

Re: Pictures of a naked 7500... - 02/03/06 10:11 PM

What's interesting is that the first pic you can see that the 2 far left outputs (Left/Surround Left) are connected by blue cable to 1 power unit, and the other 3 outputs (Right/Surround Right/Center) are connect to the 2nd power unit.
Doesn't that mean there would be more load on the right one?

Re: Pictures of a naked 7500... - 02/03/06 11:55 PM

Well, even number of transformers and odd number of channels means we're going to have to see an uneven split like that. One question that springs to mind is whether the two transformers are the same size, or whether the right one is larger to compensate for the extra load. Another question would be if the designers took into account the uneven load and designed the right transformer for the greater load and simply used the same transformer in the other slot.

Re: Pictures of a naked 7500... - 02/04/06 02:53 AM

In my haste to get the 7500 installed into my system I forgot to check the ratings of the trannies. It is quite obvious that the power supply on the right side is more substantial then that of the left. I have seen multichannel amps that implement transformers of the same size to handle two and three channels each. One would assume that those models are taxing the side with the 3 channels on said designs. The ATI/Outlaw seems to offer more iron for the extra channel.

gonk: I believe that if you look closely at the bottom picture that you will notice that the left transformer appears larger than the right. Look at the distance from that edge that runs across the top and the width of the "white stuff" on each transformer.

Sure looks like the inside of an ATI amp, doesn't it.

Svet: thanks for the pictures. They are GREAT!!

Well it looks like an ATI because it is one. wink The shipping label has ATI written on it from a mailing address.

Re: Pictures of a naked 7500... - 02/04/06 02:40 PM

Yup, it bears a striking similarity to an ATI 2005. 8-)

So if you like ATI amps and want to get an easy discount and still have fantastic customer service, Outlaw seems to be the answer...Now all we have to do is convince them to re-badge the ATI 3000 series too. 8-)

Nekkid pics of the ATI here:

http://www.wwsp.com/ati/atibrochure.htm

It looks like it's mostly the same. The individial mono cards seem to be a little different as the caps are on the input/output end w/ATI 3000 and near the front w/Outlaw 7500. The lower end ATI 1800 amps use the same orientation of the caps on their cards as Outlaw. There are no pics of the 2005 online that I could find.

Cheers,

Re: Pictures of a naked 7500... - 02/04/06 05:25 PM

svet: are you kidding me, an ATI shipping label??? LOL!!!!!

I didn't notice it this morning, but there appears to be a seperate transformer winding feeding each power module. If so, that's great.

Do you notice some sort of hiss when you turn yours off?

Re: Pictures of a naked 7500... - 02/04/06 05:37 PM

Hi RatPack, I have not noticed any hiss on powering down. Ill have to check it out later and Ill get back to you on that. As for the shipping label, well here is a pic of it. smile

Re: Pictures of a naked 7500... - 02/04/06 06:14 PM

Svet: that is really a hoot. They don't even try to hide it. LOL!!!

Been working on my income tax just about all day and the good thing is that I will be getting a nice refund. I may use it to get an amp and I am leaning toward the Outlaw 7500 like you have.

I saw a post about hiss from an ATI amp on another board. I also asked Tim about his on this board, another thread. Tim says he heard some hiss for a few seconds after turning off the amp. I'm trying to decide if it would be an issue for me.

fyi ... i did not see it mentioned anywhere around the 7125 forum... but the 7125 is a 7700 sibling (ATI little brother). I just looked inside. (c:~
Too funny...

I really am beginning to wonder what the differences are, if any, between the Outlaw and ATI amps??

Anyone know???

Re: Pictures of a naked 7500... - 02/04/06 07:07 PM

ATI - The shipping tags are the same they used for the 7100 I purchased last year. It doesn't say on the tag but the units are actually shipped from Whittier, CA.

Hiss - I get no hiss on shutdown with the 7700 (or the 7100 for that matter). In putting my ear next to the speakers I can hear an ever so slight whistle for under a second as the caps discharge but I am unable to hear this from my listening position 10' away. I would never have noticed this if it wasn't brought up here which prompted me to put my ear next to the speaker during shutdown.

I'm not getting any hiss either with my 7500; and my shipping label is exactly as that pictured.

Re: Pictures of a naked 7500... - 02/05/06 10:31 AM

No hiss coming from my 7500. I'm using it with a 900 (balanced connections) and the 12v trigger. I do hear some clicks when the combo is first powered up, but the noise is mechanical, not through the speakers.

Re: Pictures of a naked 7500... - 02/05/06 10:50 AM

I do not have any hiss issues with my 990-7500 combo with the XLR connections. The clicking sound is normal and is caused by the relays.

My 7500 runs very cool, but my speakers are very efficent. At -20 on the 990 it's rockin the room on movies and hardly working the amp by it's heat output. On 5 channel music it will get a little warmer but no more than any other amp on the market.

Re: Pictures of a naked 7500... - 03/24/06 01:00 PM

Regarding the hiss, I do not hear any additional hiss during power down. But, I do hear possibly the same thing Wharf Rat hears, it's a whistle or something from the speakers at power down. I can hear this from the listening position. Only way I could describe it would be like a cartoon lazer-gun or something. I just figured it was stored energy discharging.
I too use the XLR's.

Re: Pictures of a naked 7500... - 06/13/06 06:07 PM

Edcon has kindly contributed some pictures of the inside of a 7125, so I've consolidated all these pictures into a single page . It was a pretty quick bit of work and I haven't made thumbnails of the larger pics yet (all five of edcon's are very large, as well as Svet's first one) so the page will be slow to load until I get a chance to do that.

EDIT: I've gone back and added some thumbnails (so loading the page no longer requires loading 4MB of images). A number of images have links below them to the original high-res versions of the files.
