LOUD NOISE

LOUD NOISE - 02/11/20 04:30 PM

PLEASE HELP!!! Just added the 976 to my system. When I fire up the system, I get the loudest, screeching sound through just the right channel speaker. It lasts about 2 seconds (just enough to sound like it damaged my speakers) then it stops but leaves behind an annoying hum (only in the right front channel). At first I thought it could be a bad trigger cable so I removed and still the same horrible screech.

Process of elimination:
1. Checked speaker wire connection (all good)
2. Removed 7700 from the Panamax and plugged into the wall (same result)
***mind you each time I'm having to turn on the system only to hear this noise, then turning off fast as I can***
3. Removed the 976 from the Panamax and plugged directly into the wall (same result)
4. Tried a different (known good) interconnect between the 976 and 7700 (same result)

Another issue - I'm connected from my 4k TVs ARC port to ARC port of the 976. The processors is receiving the TV information because I get a picture but no sound.

I pray this isn't a sign of needing another AMP.

Swap speaker wires to see if the noise moves over. Then swap the input cables on the amp to see if its the pre-amp or amp causing it.

I think it's the R AMP channel....I switched with the left cable which didn't give me the noise and WHAM its back

PLUS....I disconnect what I think is either a bad channel or cable....NO NOISE...but I still can't get ANY sound out of the system.

I can't believe this but is this a sure indication I have a DEAD AMP??

With the right channel input disconnected the amp still puts the noise to your right speaker? If it does it is the amp if it doesn't the 976 is the issue or the cable to the amp from the 976. Also make sure the signal cable is not running parallel very close to a power cable.
