7500 vs the world of 5 channels - 03/20/15 04:29 PM

Im digging around for an amp to run through an AVR's preouts. The Outlaws specs in some areas are a bit better than the other contenders I have in mind. My question for the 7500/7700 owners is, how does this amp compare at lower levels than other amps you have owned when it comes to sound quality? I don't need a lot of power, but headroom isn't a bad thing as long as it is quiet without an idle hiss with my horns. I am looking at Acurus (used), McIntosh (used) and Bryston (used), but I keep flipping back to shear build of the Outlaw, its hardware and its sensible pricing.

Its all about real world value. I have both the 7500 and the 7125 and both are excellent amps as far as build quality and high quality sound. I am of the ilk that you can't hear much difference in the sound of amps so you have to go with what kind of power you need and the value you get. I can compare the Outlaws to multiple receivers I have owned and there is no comparison for power especially in HT use. I can only compare the Outlaws against stereo amps and those are a 1976 Yamaha CA-800 with 45 watts of output and an older Mcintosh MC275 which was a tube amp. I currently run my 7500 in stereo with Magnepan 1.6s and they really sing with all that power. To me the amp is the power of the system but you will always hear a much more distinctive difference in speakers.

I agree with XenonMan regarding power amps. Audio/video has been my passion for over 40 years & have owned several prestigious amps. Krell, Classe, McIntosh (several through the years), Boulder, Mark Levison, & so forth. All fore mentioned amps are very expensive & all preformed extremely well. Of course, I had high end speakers to go with the electronics to garner that last ounce of audio nirvana! I said all this to say that I currently own an Outlaw 7700 amp, & I must say, what a great piece of equipment. To me, this amp holds its own compared to the previous amps I've own. This includes build quality, & more importantly the outstanding performance & the price point is unbelievable. No way you can go wrong with any Outlaw amp! This particular amp will drive anything you hook up to it with amazing sonic results. As a last comment. I'm getting ready to sell the 7700, along with other gear. getting out of the hobby. Hope this helps anyone wondering if Outlaw is up to the task of competing with the competition. I say they are the competiton!!!

The 7500 and 7700 are built for Outlaw by ATI in Los Angeles and are equivalent to their 2005 and 3007 models. ATI OEMs multichannel amplifiers for a number of well known manufacturers (just do a quick Google search for the usual suspects) and has a solid reputation. I've used my ATI 2005 almost daily for several years and it has never let me down. My ATI will be around long after my 990 is gone and maybe the next processor after that!
