Using an audio input without assigning a video input - 01/03/07 08:15 PM

Hello,I am a new 970 owner.I am very happy to be among all of you fell Outlaw owners. My question is can I use an audio input ( optical ,or coaxial) without assigning video input? I have 720P 30" lcd tv that has a vga input. Now the 970 has no vga ,and I do not want to use component or dvi.How do I go about doing this?Let me know what you guys come up
with.Cheers.
By the way ,hello Gonk its Neil,I am happy you sold you the 750.How are the cats doing?

Hey there, Neil - the 750 has moved on to a new home and the cats are well (daughter got a cat toy from her grandparents for Christmas, so the cats have some extra entertainment these days).

Audio only sources (CD, tape, aux) of course have no video source associated with them, but you can also have video sources with an audio input from a source (optical, coaxial, or analog) and no video source connected - the 970's monitor output won't give you anything because there will be no signal for it to use, but since you'll be using the VGA input at that point it won't matter.

What sources will you be using that offer VGA outputs? Will you have a single video source tied to that VGA input, or will you also have other sources that will use component or DVI/HDMI?

Hey Gonk thanks for answering.I will be using three component and no dvi.I have the new Neodigits Helios
H4000.That unit up coverts to 1080P through the compnent output.I have a Dish VIP 211 that also does 1080I through the component out.I have the Olive Musica but that will be routed the cd input.Do you suggest a vga to component converter?

Yeah, if the only HD input on the TV is VGA then I'd route component from all through sources through the 990 and then take the 990's component output through a component-to-VGA converter.
