Is everyone Happy with their 970? - 06/13/06 04:40 PM

Ok I am finally down to having to make a decision on my audio equipment and want to take a reality check before I pull the trigger. Is everyone who bought the 970 happy with it? How do you think it is for music? As well as Home theater?

I know that there have been several issues, have all of them been resolved?

THanks for your help!!

It would appear that the 970 is a really good piece for both music and movies. To all reports, bug free, and even when their have been bugs, Outlaw has addressed them fairly quickly, and since the 970 is software upgradeable, fixes can be applied without sending the unit back.

I've had my 970 since December of 2005 and am completely satisfied with it. I get excellent performance on both music and surround material, the feature set is more than adequate for most users, and the price is unbeatable. It's a great processor, and an outstanding one when price is taken into consideration.

I really enjoy my 970. It is a great processor. I have stated before and I will stick with my sentiment that I like the felxibility of the 990. You really can't go wrong with either product. Personally if I had the space for it I would have gotten the 990. That being said, sonically I don't think that I am missing anything with the 970. I use the 970 98% of the time for TV/Movies. I believe that they have the "no audio" issus finally resolved.

It is a great product. The support is great. If any issues come up they can/will release new firmware to fix the unit, so you really can't go wrong.

Good Luck,

Charlie

could anyone compare the 2 channel audio to a receiver such as the Denon 2805 or 3805 or an Integra or Rotel??

Would be helpful!

I just bought and received my second 990. One runs with a 7700. The other with a 755.

I did some searching, Monkeypimp, and found one post that compared the 970 to a Denon 3803 (conveniently followed immediately by a post comparing the Model 950 to Rotel, Adcom, and Parasound).

I am very happy with my 970. Sounds great and works great. If you can't spend the extra dollars or use the 990 to its full potential then the 970 sounds like the right answer for you. I have the "no audio" from time to time, but have not done the upgrade, by choice. I just haven't had a chance to rip my 970 out of my rack yet!LOL It really hasn't been an issue yet, I turn the 970 off and back on and everything is back to normal. Would I buy another 970 if I had to do "it" over again?? YES, I would.

I have had mine for a couple of months and love it. I too have an occasional no audio problem, but havent done the upgrade because I dont want to take it out of the system, and the problem doesnt occur that often.

I am one happy camper

MP,

I wrote the comparison on the Denon 3803 several months ago. I've now got a couple more months of experience and it has been smooth sailing, great sound and no glitches.

The 990 may provide a few more doodads to play with and supposedly it's a bit more musical but, compared to the Denon 3803 that I was using as a pre/pro there simply is no comparison with the 970. HT is absolutely incredible with 3D separation and total surround sound, which was missing with the 3803.

Music sounds much better, limited only by the fact that I compare it to my much higher end 2 channel system. Yet, on mids and highs, its pretty dang close but even with my sub, the bass doesn't compare with my floorstanders, probably more to do with the speakers though than the 970.

I can absolutely recommend the 970 unless you've got the bucks and the desire for more options provided by the 990, then go that route. If you don't need the additional audio options, connection options, etc. the 970 is absolutely great and will serve you well and it's still pretty dang stout and well made. Good luck, Dave
