970 quirky or by design - 12/20/05 02:56 PM

I've noticed a couple things with my 970 and I'm wondering if others have had these issues.

1. When using the test tone, at first some speakers had no sound and then all of a sudden they did. After that, all speakers were fine after numerous tests. Yes, I did check my wiring and everything was firm in place.

2. With an analog audio input, when switching between stereo modes, a couple things happen. First, like the test tone, 5 speaker stereo wouldn't work the first time around. Next test it worked and has worked since then. Second, the bass seems to kick in through the subs a few seconds after hearing sound from my speakers.

Is this normal behavior and is the 970 just buggy?

Also, using stereo modes, does stereo use the subwoofer output?

Mine doesn't. It just kicks in using 5 channel or more.

The audio worked fine on the one I tried for several days. The sub was present on "Stereo" mode for me, but I believe it is dependent on your crossover settings and speaker sizes. The sub was not present in the "Bypass" mode on the unit I tested.

Did you find the sub more prominent during 5 channel or more than in stereo mode? It's possible that I'm getting signal from my sub during stereo only but it's definitely not as much when in a 5 or more channel mode.

Hello iardon,

The sub output in 5 stereo will be louder than that of standard stereo as you're summing sub frequencies below the respective crossover points and redirecting that to the sub. That would be 5 channels worth of sub signal vs. just two.

I would also suspect your sub was in a music sense mode which could cause a delay in its activation relative to the amp which is likely being powered up through a trigger connection. Give us a call and we'll be happy to help you work through all of this.

Best,
