Question on the SMS-1

Question on the SMS-1 - 02/11/08 06:34 PM

Hello,
I currently have an Outlaw 950 (yes, I know it is old--I am waiting for HDMI 1.3's on the new 990) and a Transcendent Sound 2-Channel Tube Pre-amp with a subwoofer output. I have been using a DPDT switch to select the output. However, I would like to add an SMS-1 to the mix and was wondering if I would be able to ditch the switch and have the SMS-1 have the R channel from the 950 and the L channel from the 2-channel pre-amp, with the single output going to the sub? Is that possible? I am getting ready to upgrade to an eD A7-900 sub that I know I could use the LFE input from the 950 and the L or R line level input from the 2-channel pre-amp. But, I would like to get some EQ'ing possiblities since I have a large room with some wooden floors. If the SMS-1 will work, would it be best to use the LFE input on the sub (from the SMS-1)?

Thanks again,
Dan

Short answer: yes, you can connect two subwoofer sources to the left and right inputs on the SMS-1, and whichever one is active will be used to feed a signal to the subwoofer. You would need to be sure that both weren't playing at the same time, or you'll get a subwoofer signal that contains the sub output from both sources.

Gonk,
Thanks for your answer! I would assume I would just need to run a single output out of the SMS-1 to the LFE input on the sub's plate amp, correct? I installed a HT bypass switch on my tube pre-amp, so running both singals at once will not be a problem.

Thanks again,
Dan

You assume correctly - you'll just need one output from the SMS-1 to the sub's plate amp.

Cool, that means I only need to pull one run of Belden 89259 through the wall. I don't think I would have had enough to do 2 runs!
