Speakers for 2150

Speakers for 2150 - 02/15/07 10:36 PM

Just got the 2150 set up and discovered I need new speakers. Until I get them I have no real idea of how fine the 2150 is.

I've been reading the archives here and have zeroed in on trying out the Polk LSi9 but I've also read that the Axiom MT3 is really great at half the price. I see there is a newer model M22v2 that looks good and am wondering if any of you know something about it.

Thanks for all the information. You all sound sooo like you know what you're doing and believe me, I don't.

I started another thread here on a similar topic (Bookshelf speakers). You may want to check it...

Also, below is a list of a few the speakers (all of them VERY, VERY good) in the $600 to $1,000 range - fellow forum members - please add as you see fit. Prices are Interent Direct or projected STREET prices).

Onix Ref 1 ($600)
Dynaudio Audience 52 ($800)
Polk Lsi 9 ($800)
Sonus Faber Concertino ($900)
Outlaw BLS ($1000) (no reviews, but has to be good... :-) )

Ahh, sb-avnut I can't believe you didn't mention PSB in your list. I will assume we are looking for a bookshelf within the $1200.00 range. Of course remember the 2150 offers the option of including a sub to complement the low end.

PSB image or new stratus (used platinum too)
Paradigm
Revel
Energy
KLipsch

Happy hunting!

Not bookshelf - they have a small footprint but so does any speaker on a stand - but still very very good are the Magneplanar MMG's (their smallest and cheapest at $600) or SM12's at about $1200, which may be a bit too high. If you'll really, really miss bass below 45-50Hz they won't satisfy but neither will the Outlaw BLS according to its specs.

Here's something to try. I haven't heard the 22s but the qs-8s sound great and really sound better loud. They handle a lot but are shallow on the low end. Could have a lfm2 and the qs8s and stands for a little more than the polks. Maybe later move the 8's to surround and go from there. Just a thought.
