755 power cord termination?

755 power cord termination? - 03/02/03 10:03 PM

I looked thru the online manual and I didn't see anything that answered my questions..

Does the 755 have the 3 wire, 20 amp termination like the 770 does?

I'll be ordding a 755 soon and if it does indeed have the 3 wire 20amp end(with the little side prong) then I'll change the receptacle soon.

Notice the blade on the left in the following pic..

I just ran another 15 amp dedicated to my living room in preparation for the 755 and the 950. On my existing 20amp line, which is powering a pair of 200's, Elite receiver, HDTV, DVD and CD Players, does NOT have the industrial receptacle with that side prong on one of the blades.

Does Outlaw recommend a 20 amp line for the 770? I don't see why I'd need more then a dedicated 15amp for the 755.

Thanks for any input.

The picture is of a receptacle that can accept both 15 and 20 amp connectors. A 20 amp will have one 'blade' rotated 90 degrees.

I'm pretty sure the 770 uses a 15 amp cord - if not it would be one of the first pieces of consumer equipment I've ever seem with a 20 amp plug. Also, note that the 770 is rated to draw at most 1800 watts, or 15 amps .....

Where did you see any indication of a 20 amp plug on the 770?

Looking for it now....

-----------------------------------------------------
Note: The power cord provided is extra heavy to accommodate the load of seven channels. The cord is not quite seven feet long, and the termination at the amplifier end is slightly larger, and with a different orientation of the blades than I have seen on other equipment. This is an electrical code requirement for 20 amp components, so you will need to install an appropriate AC wall socket if you don't already have them. Even the heavy cords seen on most audiophile amplifiers are not quite as thick as this one.

I'm thinking he's talking about the end that plugs into the amp.

Hmm..OK. But why did he say to change your AC wall socket? Thats when I started thinking it over.

Thanks Charlie. I guess I'll stop worrying about it.

Dunno. I asked Outlaw (via email) to clear this up.

Thanks much And by the way, as far as the 12 gauge wire topic we were discussing..

I called about the latest codes here in my city and ALL must be 12 gauge. Thanks for the advice charlie.

Got this via email (thanks Scott!)

Hello Charlie,

Thanks for contacting the Outlaws!

Both the Model 755 and 770 use the same power cord. They have a 20 amp
type connector on the female side and a 15 amp connector on the male side.

Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions.

Best Regards,

Scott

Kick ass...thanks for asking Charlie...

And thanks to Scott for responding to him!

Why that reviewer specifically said youll need to replace the wall receptacle is beyond me

Sorry for the confusion. YOu know me, I hate being in the dark about things, its the little issues that gnaw away at me.

Thanks again charlie.

Yeah, that threw me for a loop as well. I was running all over the place looking for plug adaptors and 20-amp extension cords. Finally, one call to Outlaw tech support cleared everything up for me and I had all the right accessories before the amp arrived.

It's a lovely amp. You're going to LOVE it!

Yeah, heavy is the operative word! I got the 770, and that thing weighed almost 100 pounds!!

I got my 755 Wednesday... the manual recommends getting help to get it out of the box... it's obvious once you try to get your fingers underneath the thing...

I think the box comes with an auto-nail feature.. whenever it's put on a solid surface it nails itself down
