2200's and 4 Ohm Green Mountain Audio Europas - 11/24/06 09:29 PM

I am considering adding a pair of 2200's to my vintage NAD reciver.

My concern is the fact that the Europa's are rated for only 120 WPC at 4 ohms.

Would the 2200's be too much for the speakers to handle?

How good are the 2200's at driveng 4 ohm loads?

The 2200's would be quite stable into a 4 ohm load. In fact, they're rated for 300W at 4 ohms.

Will a more powerful amp hurt a speaker? Actually, having more available power can help avoid doing damage to a speaker - the extra power helps keep the amp from clipping under extreme loads, and clipping is an easy way to damage a speaker. If your speaker is efficient enough to not need more than 120W at 4 ohms, you'll never need to push the amp past that output level (at least not without endangering your hearing).
