12 Volt Trigger Cable

12 Volt Trigger Cable - 09/24/11 03:33 PM

Just ordered 3x 2200's, and was wondering if they included 12 volt trigger cables with the amp?

If not, can anyone point me the right direction?

Thanks,
Conrad

As I recall, the multichannel amps come with trigger cables but the monoblocks do not. The 2200 does have an automatic mode (turns on when sensing an audio signal), which is what I think Outlaw anticipates as the most common solution for powering on these amps. If you want to use the 12V trigger, a 3.5mm or 1/8" mono cable can be had from Radio Shack (although I couldn't find it on the web site) or Monoprice.

Thanks Gonk!

Just figured I would try and do it 'right' and use the 12v triggers.

Looks like the monoprice link is to a 1/4" cable... would that work?

This the radio shack winner?

thanks again.

That is not the right one - that's what I get from trying to find cables on an iPhone. The Radio Shack cable will work.

Keep in mind that you will need 3 mono cables to trigger all three amps. Why not at least try the audio trigger? Also Outlaw doesn't recommend trying to trigger more than two in series. This note is in the 2200 manual:

Note: Connecting more than two Model 2200s to a single source controller
may overload the system and is not recommended. If you wish to
automatically turn on more than two Model 2200 units, we recommend
the use of either the music sense circuitry or an externally powered relay
controller. Contact Outlaw Audio Customer Service for more information
on using the Model 2200 in multiple unit systems to avoid damage to
your processor, receiver or controller.

Got three off of amazon for < $10 shipped. Also have a Yamaha RX-A3000 coming in with dual 12v trigger ports and thanks for looking out on the daisy chain limit.

You're both probably right, the audio triggers probably work great... i'm just covering my bases so that i'm rocking hard next weekend!

XenonMan - you were right, the audio trigger works great. I was worried it may have a "hard" or "pop" start (as opposed to soft) and it's not the case. Ah well, out 10 bucks but in the scheme of AV costs...

I have found out first hand that attempting to trigger more than two M2200s will not work. At least in my system. I'm getting used to using the music sensor option so thats fine for now smile.

I built a Y cable to trigger both of my 2200s with the 990 and have no problems at all.

I wonder if you could trigger three M2200s with the 990? But it seems that you can not trigger more than two M2200s which seems very odd to me.

You could buy an external trigger to see if that works better than the pre-pro.
