Apple TV

Just purchased the new Apple TV. Have the Outlaw 1070 and a Pioneer Elite 50 inch plasma. Need suggestion as to how to hook up. Apple TV to TV via HDMI. From TV to the Outlaw via optical cable? Will the optical cable deliver 5.1 to the Outlaw.

I'd prefer connecting HDMI from the AppleTV to your plasma and optical from the AppleTV to your 1070.

Reread your post. Apple TV only has an HDMI out. So HDMI into my Pioneer plasma and then would have to be an optical connection from the plasma to my Outlaw.....I think.

According to this page, the latest iteration of the AppleTV still has an optical output between the HDMI output and the ethernet port - that's why I suggested it. This page also lists an optical output. Using that output is preferable to relying on the TV to feed the HDMI audio signal out to the TV's optical port, which (depending on the TV) may or may not work.
