hdmi question(s) - 08/22/08 03:27 AM

First time here. Very informative and helpful board. Now, I've got a couple of techno peasant questions about my 1070:

1. Can the 1070 recieve hdmi and output component in the dvd path?

2. If I change to hdmi output(s) will I run into problems with the dvi to hdmi "conversion"?

Thanks very much for your indulgence,

Jim

For item #1, the answer is "no" - no receiver or processor will transcode HDMI to component. There are some copy protection issues being imposed on us all...

For item #2, there will be no problem with DVI to HDMI conversion. The video format is identical between the two, so the signal is just passing through. The potential for HDCP problems always exists, but the 970's switching has not been a contributor to such issues. You will need a separate audio connection, since DVI doesn't support audio.

No problem, Jim. Glad to help. If you want to know more about the crazy world of HDMI, I've got a FAQ in my sig. It's not been updated in a while, but there hasn't been much change in the HDMI interface since v1.3 was finally published so it's still pretty current.
