More 1070 glitches since getting it back from Outlaw - 09/16/07 01:48 PM

Still trying to remain even-keeled, but I have to admit, I'm not really left with the feeling that shipping the 1070 to Mass. has done a whole lot to stabilize the unit.

I'm definitely seeing less "No Audio" sounds - I think I've had that happen about 3-4 times since I've gotten the unit back.

Issues seen now:

1.) Lockup: While I was away at the PSU/ND game, called home to talk to an angry wife who'd been forced to watch TV in the bedroom because the 1070 was unresponsive. Had her shut down the power to the entire entertainment center and let it sit for a bit. This resolved the problem. She said the problem was that the 1070 was completely frozen - no volume controls, no audio output, no response at all.

2.) Audio distortion: While using a DVR (Comcast/Motorolla), changing the channel or FF'ing through commercials can result in the sound becoming distored upon returning to normal playback or the refreshing of the new channel. I heard it happen a couple minutes ago. Someone talking to the camera on a TLC show sounded like the person had severe laryngitis - I went out to the living room, clicked Video 1, then Video 2 (my normal source for the STB), and it resolved the problem. Also have seen something that might be wrong with the bass management portion of the software - have heard the sound turn very muddy, like more sound is being channeled through the sub than usual, and less to the monitors/towers. Can't quite explain it. Powering off/on the unit seems to work.

Anyone else still having problems after the latest update?

I had a couple issues shortly after the last update, but nothing recently.

I do not any any of these issues. I have the last beta firmware.

Speak of the devil. I just got this issue right now. I got home a few moments ago, and the 1070 is locked up. I will power down to see if this resolves.

I haven't seen the whole lockup issue since she mentioned it. This is a good thing. And for the sake of Outlaw, the reccurence of my no-audio issue is in fact at least partially to blame on my POS Motorolla cable box. I was watching the Eagles game...I was fast forwarding too quickly, hit play, then hit the 15 second "jump back" button and lost audio. I started messing with the 1070 - cycled the power, changed sources, etc. No dice. Powered off the cable box and back on, and wouldn't you know, my HD-DVR box has a little no-audio bug all it's own. Sorry if I misled anyone. I'll be paying closer attention now that I know there's another culprit.

Well -

I'm back at the no audio issue again. To confirm, I've had no more complete "lockup" issues.

However, I am seeing the no audio issue, daily. I use my system every day, and almost without fail, simply changing channels on my cable box causes sound to drop. Changing sources on the 1070 corrects this.

Is anyone hearing anything about another firmware update in the making or have we reached the pinnacle of firmware for our beloved 1070?

I'd recommend getting in touch with Outlaw. They may want to pick your brain a bit about what is happening, what happens under different circumstances, and such as that.

I purchased my 1070 in August and am mostly happy with it. I do have the very occasional no-audio problem with my Motorola PVR. It seems to occur only when the source format switches from 5.1 to 2.0 when changing channels. I can't think of an instance where it has occured going from 2.0 to 5.1. I have had one system lockup which seemd to be caused by hitting the mute button while the unit was still initializing.

My 1070 is on a trip to Mass. now because of an audio problem, apparently related to the surround processor. But I started having occasional lock-ups after I got a URC MX-850 remote. They were few and far between, but I think they were related to the timing of events when running macros. I increased the delays between commands and the problem seemed to go away.

Hi Bob - how are the SNT's working out for you?

I would agree that the lock up issue seemed to be related to "overloading" the receiver with commands - I think a combination of being in a hurry and/or fat-fingering the 1070 remote caused my lock up issue.

I've been experimenting with Auto-Polling and found that turning it back ON for my Comcast box source (vid 2) has cut wayyyy down on my no-audio bugs.

Always an adventure smile

I haven't had the no audio issue for quite awhile. But I get the lock ups nearly every day. I had pre-ordered my 1070 and it has done it from the beginning. I had called Outlaw regarding this and the only thing we could ever come up with is re-flash the firmware. That's a lot of work, and I really got tired of doing it all the time so I don't. I've just got the family trained to shut it off and on till it works. I went just now to see what would happen. 3 turn ons before it initialized correctly. It will work now for the rest of the day. But it seems that if it is off for over a 24 hour period, it locks up the first time. Drives me crazy cause everyone always raves about how good this system sounds, up until the lockups show up. Btw, I am running the latest firmware. I really don't have a lot of time to figure it out and really don't want to do without it. But truly disappointed.

I would definitely send the unit back to Outlaw to have them review the lock up issue. If you're experiencing it every day, that would annoy me too.

I"m down to the no-audio issue on occaision, and sometimes when I switch Dolby modes I get static coming through the speakers. The first problem is more prevalent than the second, and I'm managing regardless.

I've had one lock up in the past 3-4 months. I unplug the unit for a minute and it clears it up.
