Unplugging headphone jack...

Hi all,
Last night after getting a brief episode of the famed ''no-audio issue''...
I noticed that the volume level always seems to reset itself at -30db when unplugging headphones...
too bad it can't remember the last volume level....
or is there a way I'm not aware of ?
anyone with insight ?

I've heard that this was done intentionally to prevent somebody from having the volume cranked way up while listening to headphones and then blasting their speakers when they unplug the 'phones.

it is a minor thing...I don't use headphones that much anyway...it took me 6 months to notice it...
