Second life for my 1070...as an amplifier? - 10/09/13 07:25 PM

Hello all,

I've had my 1070 for about 6 years now and I'm still pretty attached to it, though despite how stubbornly I'd like to keep using it, the dated connections are starting to become harder and harder to justify with the needs of other newer components.

So I've got my eye on the Model 975 processor, and I was wondering, could the 1070 serve as an amplifier for a separate processor? I'm not sure how volume control would work, and the 1070 doesn't have a remote trigger connection to be switched on with the processor, but convenience of use aside, does it sound possible?

...or crazy?

(I'm not dogmatically attached to the Model 1070 or anything; eventually I'd like to pair the Model 975 with the Model 7075, but for the meantime only one of them fits my budget)

There are no inputs available to feed to the 1070s amp section. If it is in good working order you could still use it for all of your analog equipment and use the 975 for any newer digital equipment needing HDMI and the new codecs.

I guess it's possible albeit not quite perfect.
Feed the 1070's "DVD input" from the analog outputs of the 975. Leave the 1070 volume at max (or 0 dB) to have its preamp section as much as "pass through" as possible.
975 will then take all "preamp/processor" duties and the 1070 will become the "power amp".
