The purpose for connecting your components to the 1070 and then the 1070 to the TV is to allow you to switch between sources without have to reroute cables. It also lets you keep your audio and video sources aligned with one another through the assignable input menu. If you only have one source you don't need to connect the video side but the audio side still needs the 1070s amp section for great sound.

It would appear that the 2842 cable is an HDMI to DVI cable and should work for the 1070. Bear in mind that it does not carry an audio signal even though one end is HDMI. It is for video connection only. You will have to connect an audio cable also preferably either Optical or coax digital. You also won't get many of the newer codecs since the HDMI interface for audio is not used.
