Has anyone else had a 990 remote DOA?

Has anyone else had a 990 remote DOA? - 04/14/08 11:38 AM

Finally got a chance to test out my new 990/7500 this weekend. Partial test, that is. I've only hooked up the two mains (Axiom M80's) and sub (LFM-1 EX)...the rest will be installed once my HT room is complete.

Anyway, the remote for the 990 appears to be dead on arrival. I installed the batteries supplied and nothing. I checked to make sure the batteries were installed correctly and they were. I even bought new batteries, still nothing. I plan to contact the Outlaws this morning, but I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem with their remote.

I haven't heard about this, but it's certainly possible. It won't be a problem for Outlaw to ship you a new remote. Outlaw will ask you a few questions to verify that the remote is really and truly dead, though, and here are the ones I'd expect. First, did you press the TNR button to operate the 990? Second, did you use one of the source buttons (or the front panel power button) to turn the 990 on and try the remote then? (The power button is a discrete "off" command, and doesn't turn the unit off.)

Thanks for the reply gonk.

I did press the TNR button to operate the 990, with no success. I did turn the front panel power on and then tried the remote and still nothing. In the section that pertains to the battery installation, the manual indicates the LED light will flash if the batteries are installed properly. Also, the manual indicates the backlight feature will turn on when any button is pressed on the remote. Neither the LED light nor the remote's backlight feature work even after checking and double checking the proper battery installation, and after installing brand new batteries.

Fredneck,
Try depressing the TNR button and then the DVD button.

I will try that when I get home ez2bking. Does it matter that I don't have a DVD player hooked up yet?

If the backlight isn't coming on and the LED isn't doing anything, I suspect that it's dead.

I corresponded with the Outlaws yesterday and I received notice later the same day that my new remote is on its way. I corresponded with Edward and I have to say, so far, the Outlaw customer service is top notch! Thanks.

Got the new remote from the Outlaws yesterday and it works great! BTW, I just love my 990/7500. The sound through my new Axiom speakers is just amazing.

Newb here, (been lurking long enough to be a gonk-a-holic!), bought B-stock 990/7075 a couple months ago. Just lately hooked them up.

I just had a similar experience - remote partially DOA. A quick call to Edward, a few quick tests, and he sent a new remote to me. It works fine.

So I'll add my own thanks to Edward and Outlaw for great customer service!
