Oppo DV 980HD - 08/30/07 02:56 PM

I am currently running the Oppo 980 HD through my 990 to my 56" Samsung DLP which states it has 1080P capability, however I seem to be only able to desplay 1080i. I bought the 980HD to take advantage of the TV's 1080P capability. Shold I go direct from the Oppo to the TV to obtain this ?

Running through the 990 should not create any problem with passing a 1080p signal. I would double-check the specs on the Samsung, as many early 1080p displays would not accept a 1080p input signal. What is the model number of the Samsung?

Would that be the HL-R5678W? Hoo-boy, that user manual has a few rough spots in its english translation. I found a few references to 1080p on page 141, but they are really not clear. It does appear to accept 1080p, but it says "To view TV in the best visual quality of 1080p, connect to a PC whose graphic output is WUXGA (1920 x 1080)." That makes me wonder if it will only accept 1080p via the VGA input, with other inputs (component and HDMI) limited to 1080i. It's weird, but the way a lot of early 1080p displays handled inputs was weird.
