CONNECTING A MAC MINI - 11/24/06 08:04 PM

What is the best way to connect my MAC MINI to the 990? I want to stream a football game tomorrow through the internet.

MacOS will recognize the 990's USB port as an audio device, so you could use USB for the audio if you don't have an optical cable with the mini headphone optical connector that the Mini uses. For video you could either run DVI straight to your TV, run DVI through the 990's video switching, or use a DVI-to-video adapter to get s-video.

My brother has a mac mini hooked into a DAC and through his pre and his projector. I thought it had a lot of cool features and was close to the CD played through the CD player. The comparison in sound will very with different DAC's and CD players of course.

I would like to hook the MiniMac through the usb port of the outlaw which was said to be possible by a post before this one.

Can anyone with the MiniMac to the 990 through the USB comment on the sound quality vrs. using your cdp through a digital connection(so the 990 DAC is used)?

Thanks

For what it's worth, the 990's DAC would still be used with the USB connection, since the USB connection is digital. There may still be differences, of course, since the digital path is different from a processing standpoint...
