HD DVD Hookup - 10/14/06 04:01 PM
I just got a new HD DVD player and it looks great. Problem is I already have a SACD player hooked up through the 990's analog inputs. Any ideas on how to hookup the HD DVD player to the analog inputs, do I need to buy a switcher or will using a y cable out of the 990's inputs work? I would like to be able to get maximum audio from both the SACD and HD DVD player. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Y cable should do, at least it is a simple solution.

That's what I was thinking, anyone have an idea on what effect that will have on sound quality?
While the chances for harm to any of the equipment connected that way is small, there are issues, such as impedance changes, that can affect the results of such a Y connection. It may be best to have only one of the sources powered on at a time so that the two outputs are never ‘bucking’ one another. Personally, I would look for another way, even if just a 'multiple selector switch' box of some kind.

Thanks, I may look to get a switcher to avoid messing anything up. I was also wondering, if I can just use 2 channel DVD-A and SACD by hooking up the analog stereo outputs of the player to the 990's analog CD connection?

Just get a component video switcher from walmart for $20.00 I did this and many others at avsforum as well and it works great!
