Newbie setup question - 05/27/06 07:49 AM

My equipment

HK 47 DVD Player
Directv Tivo
990/7125
Supercube II sub
Orb audio speakers
Sony Grand Wega

Here is my wiring

DVI to HDMI from the TV to the 990
Fibre from the TV to the 990
DVI to HDMI from the DVD to the 990
Fibre from the DVD to the 990
Component video from DirecTV to the 990 (Older Tivo Model)

I read through Gonk’s post regarding menu issues and I must be missing something. First I tried using various cables from the 990 to the Sony, component, S-video, pressed the menu button and nothing. Then I took my portable TV with component video and hooked it up to video 4 on the back of the 990, switched to video 4, and pressed menu but I did not see anything. Any help would be appreciated. I am not finding the troubleshooting portion of the manual helpful at all. Lord of the Rings is so close, yet so far away ……

Make it easy on yourself! I have a tiny portable tv that I use to access the menu (I have a projector)
just run one composite cable from the "video monitor out" (number 8 in the rear panel view in the manual) to your portable tv, press the menu button and you should have a display.

You need to have a component cable from the 990's monitor output to the TV so that the DirecTV's video output will get there (and so that you can get to the OSD).

Here is the portable TV I use... $12 from Compusa.

You've got to have a component output anyway to get the DirecTV signal. At that point, a portable TV is handy for folks with front projectors or remote equipment racks but otherwise not really needed.

Thanks to everyone. I was able to connect the monitor out from the 990 to the front of my tv and access the menu.
