990 with ICBM - 07/29/05 01:36 PM

I have my ICBM hooked up between my 990 and my sunfire amps. I want to turn off all bass management in my 990 and let the ICBM do it all. How do I set the 990 to make sure it NEVER provides bass mannagement?

Thanks!

Set all speakers to "large" and the subwoofer to "yes" (so the LFE channel stays put - you will actually want "LFE only" for the sub, since "yes" may not be a choice when the mains are large) in the "Speaker Size" menu. This will disable all of the 990's bass management.

Are you running a 7.1 speaker setup? I ask because Pro Logic IIx allows for discrete left and right surround back channels, while the ICBM treats them as a mono signal (with a single input). If you do have two surround back speakers, I'd suggest setting them to "small" and skipping the ICBM with them (go straight to the amps). This way, any low frequency data that might reach those speakers will re-routed and you can preserve the discrete left and right channels. If you have a 5.1 or 6.1 speaker setup, of course, this becomes irrelevent since the ICBM will handle that without any trouble.

Thanks for confirming. I am running 5.1 (for now), so this is not a problem.

Also, Gonk, thanks for all your insight elsewhere on this forum, too. The other night I checked out your links and read all your reviews. Very helpful. I think I am going to get an MX-500 based on your review. Seems it will work well with my 990 and my new Yamaha s-2500 universal DVD player. By chance, do you know what version of remote is an mx-500 with R.F.?

No problem, hifialan - glad I could help. The RF version of the MX-500 is the MX-600, by the way.
