Help/Buzz/Zone2 - 06/03/13 06:02 PM

Recently I did some rewiring since I purchased a pair of Dynaudio 110s and a new DAC. The 110's have a built in amplifiers. When I am listening to them I disengage the 7700. I read in the Outlaw manual that when using zone2 I would need a infrared sensor to control volume and for the remote to be functional.
I am wondering if I have improperly connected my Dyn's since I am using the zone2 remote without any issue EXCEPT a constant buzz in my 110's and also my B&W's when I am in 7.1 mode.
Not only that but when I change sources regardless if anything is connected I still get the BUZZ from all speakers.
I have checked all connections and they are tight. Also I disconnected each source but no luck. I also have changed outlets and still the buzz is there. I think it has something to do with the second zone but I don't know what it could be.
I appreciate any and all help.
What am I doing wrong.

Thanks

It sounds like you have installed a ground loop into your system. Describe the signal path to the Dyns through your system. I would start by disconnecting your Dyns from the 7700 altogether and see if that helps. If the Dyns are self amplified I am not sure where the 7700 fits in to your system. How is it that you "disengage" the 7700 when listening to the 110As? I would think that the DAC output would go directly to the Dyns amps. I assume you have the DAC connected to the 990s digital output for volume control. If so, connect it with the Optical connection vice the coax to eliminate any chance of that ground loop.

The manual definitely wants an IR connected in zone 2 to the IR input on the 990. That connection should not cause any ground loop issues at all.

First when listening to the Dyn's I shut off the 7700 since the Dyn's have their own amplifiers. The Dyn's are thus connected to the DAC and 990. First each Dyn is plugged into a wall outlet. Second, the Dyn's using interconnects are wire to the 990's Zone2. Third from the DAC's left/right analog out to the 990's Aux In. Fourth a coaxial cable is connected from the Oppo coaxial to the Dacs coaxial. The Dyn's are not at all connected to the 7700. They are only connected to the 990.
I am using zone2 to listen to music ONLY thru the Dyn's.
When I want to watch a movie I turn the 7700 on shutting off the amps in the Dyn's while using the 7.1 mode in the 990.

Thanks for helping XM

Try disconnecting the Dyns from the 990 and only feed them from the DAC. Also make sure both Dyns share a common ground with the 990/DAC and OPPO and 7700/

Thanks
I am going to disconnect everything and start from stratch. The Dyn's have to have a connection to the 990. I am not 100% on this but I do not think the DAC has any inputs for speakers.

I will get back to you. I am starting this P_ _ n in the A_ _. Procedure in and hour.

Thanks again XM

If you are talking about the Bryston DAC you have listed it has outputs to an amp which should work fine for speakers which have their own amp. Plug the optical out from the 990 into the optical in on the Bryston and connect the signal cable from the Bryston to the input on the Dyns. That should allow you to play any source connected to the 990 through the DAC. If you connect the OPPO to the DAC you can bypass the 990 but you could be generating a ground loop right there.

No hum. However I have no volume control.
I connected the Dyn's to the Dacs outputs and there was no hum but I cannot control volume. I also connected an optical from the DAC to the 990.
No volume control. The speakers sound great but really loud.

How do you have the DAC connected to the 990? Does the DAC have a volume control?
