How can the ICBM Help me?

How can the ICBM Help me? - 09/06/02 05:31 PM

This has probably been asked but here goes, I currently have the 950 on order and am going to use two Acurus A200x3 amps in a 6.1 setup. I don't have DVD-A or SACD, what advantages will I have using the ICBM in this setup?

If you're not using the 5.1 inputs, you probably wouldn't see any benefit at all. The 950's onboard bass management should take care of your needs just fine.

The only 'issues' I have with the 950 (sight unseen at this point) are the following:

Functional issues:
- Double bass on 5.1 analog inputs.
- Speaker gain adustable in 1 db steps (too big, should be .5 or .1)
- Limited time delay options (speakers grouped rather than listed individually)
- Not field upgradable.

Cosmetic or usability issues:
- Inputs not relabelable.
- No channel volume trims, tweaking moves calibrated adjustments.
- Black painted faceplate is a bit industrial for me.

These are all that I can come up with right now. The functional issues I've got workarounds for using outboard processing (except upgrades, which are not a big deal to me), the other issues are not that important to me. After 950 production settles down and we have some feedback I'll get one, assuming nothing new crops up.

If none of these bother you and you don't mind being an early adopter, I'd say jump in.
