950 and Denon 2900

950 and Denon 2900 - 07/22/03 12:49 PM

I'm set on buying a 950/7100 combo and will pull the trigger soon. I'm also thinking of getting the Denon DVD 2900 to go along with the Outlaws, but have seen some posts on another forum about problems with bass management on the Denon (including a post from an owner of a 950).

I would love to hear from other 950 owners who also own or have experience with the Denon unit. Is the bass management on the 950 able to override/compensate for the bass management problems on the Denon?

Thanks in advance.

There is nothing wrong with the 2900, except that the sub test tone from the 2900's internal test tone generator is too low. (So people *believe* that they can't get the LFE channel loud enough. Threads over on HTF and AVS...) The Pioneer's have the same problem. If you use any DVD calibration disc, you will get the correct levels.

Kevin, thks for the info. I auditioned the Denon unit tonight and really like it. At the store, it certainly did not seem that bass was a problem at all! I'm really looking forward to the Outlaw/Denon combo.

Welcome to the Saloon, Harry.

I run this combo and I'm quite pleased. Check the "Outlaw to Outlaw" section of the saloon for a Denon 2900 thread. You'll be able to setup the bass management two different ways if you use the 2900 with the 950. They are described in that thread.
